Term 4

I hope everyone had a restful holiday.  We have a busy term to look forward to.

In Week 1, we are going to Hillcrest High School to watch the ILC show "Can't Stop the Feeling!"  As an appreciation of their work, we will be giving them a koha.

Week 7 - We have had a busy learning week in Room 4.

Water Safety

Wendy from Swimming NZ talked to us about how to keep safe in and around water.  She read us a story about Tasman the Sailor Dog - a clever dog who knows how to keep safe in and around water.

She showed us what to do if we got into difficulties in water - we practised our sculling actions, dog paddling and how to raise our hands and yell help!

Her final message was   If in doubt, stay out! and also we should always    Take someone with us when we swim!

Term 3

Wow this term is going fast.  It is great to see arriving on time and ready for learning.

Grandparents Day
So great to see so many grandparents and special family members.  The children were very excited to show you their classroom work and around the school.

The children thought about the special things you do for them and the love you give to them.  Here are some of the stories and poems they wrote about you.

Book Week
Just a reminder that we will be celebrating BOOK WEEK next week (Week 5).
On Wednesday everyone will be dressing up as their favourite book character.

Cross Country Training
The children are getting fitter!  Great to see children wearing the right clothes - track pants (shorts) and t-shirt and running shoes.

Chinese Dragon Boat

Last week, we watched a youtube clip explaining the legend behind the celebration of the Chinese Dragon Boat festival.

The children made their own Dragon Boat.

Term 2 - Week 5
What a busy term we have had - the children have been busy investigating and learning about the concept of Change and what it looks like, feels like and sounds like.

We spent time looking at how we could make changes to a lump of playdough.
The children added colour, pressed, kneaded, rolled and cut out shapes.

We explored how we could create sound and make changes by hitting harder/softer.

Footsteps
Each Thursday the children have been participating in the "Footsteps" dance programme.  They have learnt 4 dances.   They are having a lot of fun learning and practising all the new moves.   Here are some photos of the children moving to the music.

Room 4's Classroom Treaty

In Room 4 we talked about the Treaty of Waitangi and why it is important to us.
We read the book The Tree House Treaty by Wiremu Grace.   The children made a treaty to agree on how they could all share the tree house they had built in the pohutakawa tree.

Next we made our own classroom treaty and signed it with our handprints.   We agreed to work, learn and play  together in Room 4.

Focus SNS Puzzle Piece

In Room 4 this week, our     learners will be working on
setting SMART goals for this term.

We will be talking about what makes a goal SMART - making sure the goal is specific and can be achieved in a realistic timeframe.

FUSE Drumming

On Friday, the children in Room 4 had a super hands on experience.   Everyone had the opportunity to try Fuse Drumming.  There will be lessons available at school - a pamphlet is available outlining costs.

"FUSE is the art of making music through finding rhythm in every day objects, especially buckets and flex tubs."
"One of the easiest and quickest ways to learn rhythm is through FUSE
